Station 3: At this station, you will be using the Complete Anatomy application on your iPads, to identify structures of the heart. There will be two images to work through by filling in tables provided in your practical manual. once you have completed the answers for the images provided, your instructor may go through these with you and ask you questions if there is time.
Image 1: The Heart [1]: The first image you will work through involves the internal features of the heart, their embryological origin and their location in relation to the surface of the thorax. You previously labeled cadaveric images in your workbooks, and this is an opportunity to see how much you remember from the lecture on the heart conduction, as well as the embryology of the heart that Dr. Nunn has given you. Try to complete as much of each table as possible without consulting your lecture notes. Once you have done this, review the structures and questions using your lecture notes.
Once you have opened this image, you will see that there are a number of structures labeled Structure 1 – 10 that are to be identified.
Working with your instructor and classmates, identify the structures and fill in the table provided in your workbook. Note that you may need to tap on each structure label to see the associated tag. You are also able to move the image around using a light touch on the computer screen. Once you have finished this session, your faculty instructor will quiz you on a number of structures and answer any questions you may have.
Image 2: The Heart [2]: For the second image, click on the associated button to access this image. Again, you will fill in the table provided in your laboratory manual. Your instructor will also be available to answer any questions you may have regarding this image. If the instructor does not have time to go through this second image with you during the session, then it is up to you to seek out a faculty member if you have any questions about the labelling.
